Only through various escalations was I able to get a car. I would rate this business less than 1 star if I could.
This company is completely a den of thieves. They won't show you their insurance price. When you pay the price online and go to their account, you will find their price including insurance is much higher than National and Enterprise. What's worse, they will charge you $15 admin fee every time you pass a toll. Last year I rented a car from Dollar in Milwaukee. I got a bill of $13 toll fee. However, they charged me $105 on admin fee. Renting their cars is an awful experience.
The check-in was painfully slow. The young lady seemed to be confused as to what she should enter into the computer. Another young lady appeared minutes later to assist her, both appearing uncertain on how to complete and submit the paperwork. The one positive comment I can make about Dollar Rent A Car, is that the young ladies working at the desk were polite when we arrived and when we returned the car.
When we returned the car, we told the woman about the filthy conditions and she said they had received a shipment from another state, (it had Indiana license plates) as if this would explain the poor conditions. This was the first and last time either one of us will rent from Dollar Rent A Car!
In retrospect, my sister and I should have refused the extremely dirty Ford Fusion, but we were in a hurry to visit our mother and celebrate her 84 birthday. Also, we didn’t relish the idea of hiking back to the office in the cold conditions to complete more forms.
The car had approximately 40,000 miles on it, yet appearances would have guessed many more miles. All of the seats were badly stained, and if I hadn't been wearing jeans, I would not have wanted to sit on them. It was obvious food and drink had been spilled on both the front and back seats of the car. The front windshield had some kind of milky film on the inside, making it difficult to see at times. I cannot imagine what had splashed on the inside of the car, causing such a mess. Anyone who sat in the backseat would be facing something that was crusted on the back of the passenger seat. Later in the day, I tried to scrape it off. I washed and scrubbed on it for ten minutes. It appeared that someone had vomited. On the inside of one of the doors there was what looked like white bird droppings; perhaps the windows had been left down. I cleaned that off as well. I found a cigarette lighter under the seat and it became more obvious that the car had not been cleaned or inspected in a long time.
Thieves! I returned the car full of fuel as agreed to and on time in perfect condition. Days later I am charged an extra $50+ for no reason. Customer service reps are unwilling to help.
Once the paperwork was signed, my sister and I walked in freezing, windy conditions to the Dollar Rental parking lot to wander about looking for the car. No assistance with our luggage or with locating the rental car was offered to us.
I had pre-paid for a rental car through a travel service. Dollar said that because my flight was late and the flight number not specified on the rental agreement, they rented my car to another person and would only refund my purchase if my travel service requested it. They would not provide the car I paid for.
Thieves this car rental sucks won't recommend them
